Awareness creation, trainings, follow up for UDDTs in Nyanza Province

6.8Training -         Nyomindi self help group Training was conducted   on practical on how to apply  the end  products from the composed Ecosan product, before  transplanting Onion, Tomatoes and Kales, population reached 20  people.

9.8Ecosan toilet follow-up-         Bwoya community self help group Follow-up visits was conducted tot this groups, the units were in use ,  but maintenance and usage of the units was very poor.
9.8Awareness  creation on Ecosan toilet -         Kokise Primary School, Omiya  Village  The village demand Ecosan toilet, after experiencing  collapsing of pit latrine, which has made many people to use  bush system, or open defecation  along the lake side, population reached 84 people 
10.8Ecosan toilet follow-up visits -         Kamin  Ogedo Priamry School The four door units were still under construction, keying painting, water tanks, urine doors, urine pipe, urine container  and gutter was not fitted. They are not in use. 
11.8Ecosan toilet follow-up visit -         Nyamaseria community All the constructed units are in use only one are being used when the owner came back home from Nairobi. Grafted  Mango Trees are being planted.

12.8Community meeting -         Kendu – Bay Meeting was conducted to the group representatives, from Dirom, Upendo, and Kase Groups, on the update training as TOT’s. trainers of trainees. Population reached 9 people.
13.8Awareness creation on ecological sanitation and HIV/AIDS -         Nayburi S.D.A Church group meeting Awareness was created to the church member who ware demanding the project on  Ecosan toilet and HIV/AIDS management of people living with HIV/AIDS and group support ( holistic care) population reached over 400 people.
16.8Update training  on  Ecosan toilet -         Homa Hill’s Centre Training was conducted to the following groups
1.      Kamwania Youth Group – 12 people
2.      Kodero Women Group- 20 people
3.      Norway Support Groups for living with HIV/AIDS
Topic: covered  why Ecosan, application of end product, gas of Ecosan.
Pre and post test counseling, supportive  counseling, adherence  counseling and group formation process  demand for Ecosan project . population reached 50 
17.8Practical training on the application of end product -         Dirom self help group Practical training was conducted on how to apply urine for top dressing and how to apply the  composted  feaces  products after staying in the chamber for 9 months. Population reached 27 people .
18.8Ecosna toilet follow-ups visits -         Upendo Women Group All the constructed 13 units are in use and they  have no problems with the maintenance, no smelling, flies and resist rainfall . all pit latrine in that area collapsed due to rainfall, other community members  are demanding the project. Population reached 30 people.
18.8Community meetingNyochoo, Kanonje,Tanglweting,student from Japan.The meeting was conducted with collaborator OSIENAL,student from Japan and community groups. Where G.T.Z Ecosan promotion project was implemented.  Purpose  was to conduct survey, for non- users of Ecosan and users of Ecosan. Population reached 33 people.
18.8Community meetingNyochoo, Kanonje,Tanglweting,student from Japan.The meeting was conducted with collaborator OSIENAL,student from Japan and community groups. Repair of backdoor steel panels, Floor which was poorly done,and steep stairs. The community to mobilize  cements ,3 bags, weld mesh 1 peace,water ,sand and labour before end of November.

They accepted the new technology.Way foreward mobilization of the required materials for six doors units.To  avoid frequent sinking of pit latrines due to  poor soil.population reached 42 people.

9.9Ecosan follow up visit Nyabede  A.I.C churchThe constructed two doors units of double chamber are still not in use. The hydro form  bricks used was not well molded, and the workmanship was poor. The wall had already developed big cracks ,that created fear for the users. Lack of training on the usage after construction was not conducted.

21.9Field visits to existing UDDTS/DTS-Ugunja market The first place was at Ugunja market where we visited a public toilet of a DT. The constructed unit was still lacking the ownership, cleanliness was not well maintained. The unit was, however, well constructed and was in use.
21.9Field visits to existing UDDTS/DTS -Rambola mixed secondary schoolInstitutional we  visited had lack some of the maintenance and lack of clear roles on who is to do what, when . The construction was complete and in use.
21.9Field visits to existing UDDTS/DTS-Butere MumiasAt household UDDTs, the place we visited was well maintained and there is ownership. The owner liked them and using the end product.

25.9Ecosan vision Workshop precap -         Red court Hotel South C Nairobi It was a summative meeting on the previous workshop  held on 27/9/2010. The agreement was to have Ecosan network.
27.9Ecosan Vision Workshop -         Red court  Hotel South C Nairobi The workshop was well represented, well facilitated and the method used was participatory  approach, where all  people participated. Through group work and group presentations, from different  NGO’s , on Ecosan technology approaches, for sustainability for the future developments 
4.10Post construction training -         Bongu Primary SchoolTraining did not take place to heavy rainfall and few community members turn out. 
5.10Post construction training -         Bongu Primary School Training health club was conducted on how to maintain  the units two doors, use of end products application of the urine, personal hygiene. Population reached 15 pupils.  
6.10Post construction training -         Bongu Primary School Training both teachers and community members was conducted and there were well represented. Population reached were over 200  people.
7.10Post construction training -         Kolwak Primary School Training both teachers and community members on the principle of Ecosan, maintenance, destruction of pathogens, sustainability, roles and responsibilities  and how to use  the Ecosan toilet and advantages/ disadvantages. Population reached 80 people. 
8.10Training health club -         Kisangura primary school Training both pupils and teachers on how to use the constructed  6 door units maintenance, roles and responsibility and destruction   of  pathogens, usage the end products .population  60 pupils  
8.10Training health club -         Kolwal Primary School Training both pupils and teachers on how to use the  constructed 6 doors units  maintenance, roles/ responsibilities, destruction of pathogens and usage of the end products population reached 28 people.
12.10Meeting south Nyanza water service board.-         Kisumu The purposed of the meeting was to plan how to train both artisan and community members, before the construction. To their  targeted  groups i.e. Sotik, Kuria and  Homa- Bay.
13.10Report writing -         Office Report was compiled. 
14.10Meeting committee  members -         Kitere Primary School Did not take place because of communication brake down.
15.10Report writing -         Office Report was compiled.
18.10Meeting South Nyanza water service board.-         Kisumu Office The purpose of budget of the required materials and when to verifying the materials on site. 
19.10Verification of materials -         Sotik Did not take place due to time factors, it was approaching public holiday.
21.10Burial of 1 artisan -         Kotieno I went to bereaved with family  of one  of our trained artisan, whom we had worked with in the Ecosan Project since 2004, Burial  took place  and awareness  was created on over 300 people on Ecosan Project  
22.10Training church member -         Kokuro Training was done o church members in Migori District  on Ecological  sanitation. They were demanding  the project and were ready to sustain and own the  project. 
25.10Community Health meeting -         Nyaburi SDA Awareness  was created at Nyaburi Seventh Day Adventist Church  on ecological sanitation, whereby we  reached population of over 300 
26.10Traveling to -         Tana I went to Tana for post construction training 
27.10Post Construction Training -         Tana Training was conducted at St. Getrude Kinthithe Secondary School, to selected students, teachers and board members on the usage of the units and maintenance, destruction of the  pathogens and application  
28.10Post  Construction Training -         Tana Training was done at Kambithi  Secondary School in Maragwa, to both teachers, students and board members  on sustainability of the units, destruction of the pathogens, usage of  the end products and application 
29.10Travelling back -         South NyanzaTravelling back to the working place from Tana Service board. 
1.11School follow-ups -         Olembo Primary All  the units are functional and well maintained 
2.11School follow-ups -         Kachan Primary School All are in use  but need replacement of  urinal  pipe 
3.11School follow-ups -         Ndiru Primary School They are  in use but urinal pipe need replacement and repair of the urinal window.
4.11School follow-ups -         Kolwal Primary School They are all in use and well maintained 
5.11School follow-ups -         Siany Secondary School Are in  use  but no hand washing tank because o  theft cases. 
5.11School follow-ups -         Radienya Primary School Al toilets are in  use  and well  maintained
